Position: Safety and Security Specialist

Reports to: Security Supervisor

Classification: Non-exempt/Hourly

Schedule: 38.5 to 40-hour work week (Dependent on Assignment)

Overtime: Yes

Pay Rate: $16.50/hr.

Location: All MFAH Museum Locations

Job Overview:

  • Conduct both walking and stationary surveillance, documenting security concerns and safety issues
  • Implement opening and closing protocols, including thorough inspections
  • Communicate Museum policies regarding safety and security
  • Maintain daily logs and prepare security reports
  • Respond physically to emergency situations and administer first aid when necessary
  • Engage with visitors and enforce Museum regulations
  • Participate in the Museum's emergency response initiatives
  • Conduct inspections to ensure a safe environment
  • Assist with various Museum functions as required

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Strong focus on customer service
  • Polite and tactful in public interactions
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken
  • Observant and capable of quick responses in emergencies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Responder and CPR certifications
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends
  • Team-oriented mindset

Education and Qualifications:

  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Professional appearance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in customer service or security is preferred
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Security Guard license
  • Pass a national criminal background check
  • Good physical condition to fulfill job responsibilities

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and walk considerable distances
  • Quick response capabilities for emergencies and first aid administration
  • Accurate vision and color differentiation
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including adverse weather conditions
