Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Financial Manager to join our team at HNTB. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our service lines and/or project portfolios within an office.

This role reports directly to the Office Finance Manager and may lead the operating budget and forecasting process for the assigned service line and/or portfolio of projects or subset of office(s).

The successful candidate will have a strong background in financial planning and analysis, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Office Finance Manager to create and maintain budgets for a designated service line or project portfolio.
  • Monitor monthly results, analyze variances, and recommend solutions to support goal achievement.
  • Provide financial oversight/guidance for projects of varying complexity in the assigned service line or portfolio.
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes and procedures, fostering efficient and compliant financial operations within the service line and/or portfolio of projects.
  • Continuously improve processes for better efficiency.
  • Manage a team, efficiently allocating resources to projects for a designated service line or project portfolio.
  • Serve as the escalation point for the project finance team and foster cross-functional planning and collaboration.
  • Provide financial management guidance to the pursuit, project management, and finance teams to ensure appropriate setup and delivery of contractual business obligations.
  • Champion office cash management goals, ensuring effective cash collections and timely resolution of delinquent billings.
  • Offer financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to guide office and project teams in adhering to standardized business processes for financial discipline throughout the client/project lifecycle.
  • Act as an office liaison with the cash management organization to achieve collaborative and positive results.
  • Participate in the pursuit process to position HNTB for successful project delivery.
  • Lead office month-end reporting and revenue recognition activities for a designated service line or project portfolio.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial data that results in accurate reporting and projecting of our financial results.
  • Consult with project managers, delivery, and project finance team to provide an accurate representation of project performance.
  • Hire, supervise, manage, train, and mentor project finance staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years of financial, project accounting/analysis, or related experience.
  • 2 years of project and/or people management/mentoring experience.
  • In lieu of education, 11 years of financial, project accounting/analysis, or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management certification, other contracting/project management certifications.
  • Master's degree in business or engineering.
  • Knowledge of project financial management/cost controls.
  • Knowledge of accounting/financial principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of A/E industry.
