Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Anatomic Pathology Assistant to join our team at Confluence Health. The successful candidate will assist pathologists in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen examination, including grossing, dissection, and preparation of tissues for microscopic examination.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree and have proven skills in performing routine Pathology Assistant functions, including preparation and performance of surgical specimen examination and proficiency in frozen section preparation.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Assisting pathologists with grossing, dissection, and preparation of tissues for microscopic examination.
  2. Preparing and performing frozen sections, including tissue selection, freezing, cutting, staining, and handling techniques.
  3. Working closely with medical and lab directors to establish and maintain standards that prevent/minimize errors and maintain the highest quality while ensuring efficient turnaround times in the grossing area.
  4. Assisting with autopsies, including body preparation, dissection, sampling of organs, and other responsibilities as requested by the attending pathologist.
  5. Performing pathology computer system related responsibilities, including report writing and generation, problem solving, and other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree and completion of a structured on-the-job training program, which includes assigned education study modules, a pathologist rotation, HistoTech rotation, and competency assessment by Medical Director. Desired qualifications include 6 months experience as a Histo Grossing Tech.
