The Portfolio Manager ("PM") plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the existing commercial loan portfolio while collaborating closely with the Team Manager or Relationship Manager responsible for these accounts. The PM is expected to maintain strong connections with clients and utilize these relationships to identify and generate new business opportunities, encompassing both loans and the Bank's diverse range of products and services. Delivering exceptional service to loan clients while adhering to established Bank policies and procedures is paramount.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate closely with the Team Manager or Relationship Manager to monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Enhance and sustain existing client relationships while cross-selling the Bank's additional products and services.
  • Oversee credit origination for new credits from established networks and existing clients, including portfolio monitoring, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with clients; circulate concept memos as necessary prior to issuing term sheets or letters of intent.
  • Coordinate with the underwriting team, supported by loan assistants and other staff, to prepare the Credit Commitment Report ("CCR").
  • Present each CCR to the appropriate approval authorities. While the CCR is a collaborative effort, the PM is ultimately accountable for its content.
  • Review loan documents, whether prepared internally or by external counsel, to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with loan assistants and support staff to ensure all necessary items for loan closing are managed effectively; the PM is responsible for the client experience throughout this process.
  • Engage in portfolio management functions, including monitoring and managing the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Ensure that each credit is accurately risk-rated according to the Bank's risk rating system.
  • Evaluate client accounts and portfolios to identify, assess, and determine appropriate actions for potential credit quality issues, aiming to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential losses for the Bank.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements, emphasizing best-in-class customer service while adhering to client timelines.
  • Assist in mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a U.S. college in a related field.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in loan account relationship management, credit underwriting, or a combination of both. Comprehensive knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices is essential.
  • Extensive experience in managing commercial real estate and construction credit portfolios is required.
  • Proficient in construction lending practices.
  • Strong negotiation skills regarding loan rates, terms, and collateral requirements.
  • Prior underwriting experience in commercial lending is necessary.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Bank's credit policies, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Solid understanding of commercial and specialty banking products and services, with a proven ability to cross-sell these products.
  • Skills/Abilities: Proficient in PC applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus but not mandatory. Ability to work independently to restructure loans and lines of credit. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-production team environment. Exceptional time management skills and accustomed to meeting deadlines. Responsible and accountable for decision-making. Effective communication skills with all levels of Bank personnel.
