About the Role

The Patient Benefits Representative will play a crucial role in supporting the financial well-being of patients at Texas Oncology. This position will be responsible for educating patients on insurance coverage and benefits, assessing their financial ability, and providing guidance on financial assistance programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and verify patient insurance coverage information and demographics
  • Explain insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses to patients
  • Assess patients' ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements
  • Identify and provide information on financial assistance programs
  • Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms and forward relevant information to the billing office
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes prior to each treatment
  • Review patient account balances and notify the front desk of patients who need to meet with a representative
  • Verify and update patient demographics and insurance coverage in the computer system
  • Stay current on available financial aid and develop professional relationships with financial aid providers
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent required
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application
  • Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and utilize the appropriate and correct terminology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Finance, Business, or four years revenue cycle experience preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years pre-services coordinator experience and two (2) years of patient benefits experience required
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and appropriate application of insurance coverage benefits and terminology
