Age-Specific Responsibilities

Employees must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care that is appropriate for the age of the patients served in their designated department. This includes understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan and the ability to assess and interpret data relevant to each patient's needs.

Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Support Specialist provides therapeutic services as directed by a licensed physical therapist. This role involves maintaining up-to-date treatment skills through ongoing education, research, and program development. Responsibilities are aligned with the strategic objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of licensure and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the physical therapist in developing treatment plans and conducting evaluations.
  • Support the physical therapist in implementing treatment modalities, therapeutic exercises, and functional activities.
  • Provide feedback to the primary physical therapist regarding significant observations or changes in patient conditions.
  • Assist in estimating equipment and supply needs and may help with inventory management.
  • Cover patient care responsibilities in the absence of other staff members.
Document patient status and progress in accordance with established standards and guidelines.Communicate effectively with team members to integrate physical therapy treatment as needed.Participate in educational programs for patients and their families regarding treatment procedures and home care.Engage in departmental meetings and training sessions as required.Adhere to hospital policies, including patient confidentiality and infection control protocols.Meet or exceed productivity expectations set by the program.Provide coverage across the Mary Free Bed system as requested.Act as a patient advocate and demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware.Uphold the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior in all interactions.Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy assistant students, supervising and evaluating their skills.Contribute to program development and research initiatives as assigned.Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.Maintain clean and organized treatment areas.Embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by treating everyone with respect and dignity.Customer Service Commitment

Essential Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy.
  • Licensure in the relevant state.
  • Physical capability to lift, position, and transport patients with physical impairments.
  • BLS Certification from an approved provider.
Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the role, which may include lifting and transporting patients of varying weights.
