The Patient Safety Advisor plays a pivotal role in promoting a culture of safety within Baptist Health Care. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance patient safety and developing initiatives to address these concerns. The Patient Safety Advisor oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program, which includes data analysis and trending. This role also involves providing proactive and reactive patient safety initiatives, including participation in root cause analysis and failure mode effect analysis. The Patient Safety Advisor develops a process and plan for change that can be constantly monitored and evaluated for its effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the Patient Safety Committee by developing agendas, managing attendance and minutes, and tracking action items.
- Plan, execute, and analyze the culture of patient safety survey, disseminate results, and facilitate the action planning process.
- Review evidence-based practice to ensure that clinical services are provided in accordance with safety standards established by federal and state regulatory agencies.
- Review new and revised policies, procedures, and order sets for adoption of evidence-based practice.
- Collaborate with quality professionals and clinical leaders throughout the organization on patient safety initiatives.
- Review policies, procedures, and order sets for adherence to evidence-based practice.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to medical staff and hospital departments relative to safety science.
- Oversee the tiered safety huddle process throughout the organization, provide department safety huddle tools and examples to new leaders, audit department huddles for standardization, and work with risk management to prepare the agenda for the hospital safety huddle.
- Remain fully informed of national and state patient safety mandates (e.g., CMS, AHCA, DNV).
- Collect and analyze diverse data (including but not limited to observations, event reports, quality/safety metrics) to identify trends in patient safety risks.
- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
- 5 years of relevant experience in hospital patient safety, risk management, or quality improvement required.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- Master's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Registered Nurse, State of Florida, upon hire required.
