The Patient Safety Advisor plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of safety within our organization. This position is responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance patient safety and developing initiatives to promote a safe environment. The Patient Safety Advisor oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program, analyzing and trending data to inform decision-making. This role requires proactive and reactive patient safety initiatives, including participation in root cause analysis and failure mode effect analysis. The Patient Safety Advisor develops a process and plan for change that can be constantly monitored and evaluated for its effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the Patient Safety Committee by developing agendas, managing attendance and minutes, and tracking action items.
- Plan, execute, and analyze the culture of patient safety survey, disseminate results, and facilitate action planning.
- Review evidence-based practice to ensure clinical services align with safety standards established by federal and state regulatory agencies.
- Review and revise policies, procedures, and ordersets to adopt evidence-based practice.
- Collaborate with quality professionals and clinical leaders on patient safety initiatives.
- Review policies, procedures, and ordersets for adherence to evidence-based practice.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to medical staff and hospital departments on safety science.
- Oversee the tiered safety huddle process, provide department safety huddle tools, and audit department huddles for standardization.
- Remain informed of national and state patient safety mandates.
- Collect and analyze diverse data to identify trends in patient safety risks.
- Assist with other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- 5 years of relevant experience in hospital patient safety, risk management, or quality improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Master's degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred).
- Registered Nurse, State of Florida (upon hire).
