Position Overview:
The City of Steamboat Springs is excited to announce an opening for a Municipal Code Compliance Officer within our Planning Department. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity of our community through effective code enforcement.


Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the enforcement of municipal codes related to land use, property upkeep, building regulations, and vegetation management.
- Assist the public in understanding applicable code provisions to prevent violations.
- Detect, investigate, document, and ensure the correction of violations pertaining to the Community Development Code (CDC) and adopted Building Codes.
- Address inquiries, complaints, and issues regarding City codes related to zoning, subdivisions, nuisances, signage, weed control, and other land use matters.
- Conduct field inspections and investigations, notifying parties of non-compliance and issuing corrective notices.
- Maintain detailed records and reports of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with City Attorneys, Police Department, and other agencies as necessary.
- Prepare reports for court actions and testify as required.
- Participate in public presentations and assist in the development of new ordinances.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- One year of specialized training in planning and zoning or a closely related field.
- One year of experience in a public-facing role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Skills:
- Professional interaction with the public while enforcing codes.
- Ability to manage difficult situations calmly and professionally.
- Familiarity with modern law enforcement principles and procedures is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn applicable laws and regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders and maintain positive relationships.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation:
The compensation for this position is $37.04 per hour, with placement within the range dependent on relevant experience and qualifications.
