Michael Baker International is seeking a skilled Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager to enhance our operations in eastern Pennsylvania. This role involves providing engineering design expertise across a range of transportation initiatives, including highways, bridges, trails, and greenways. Your engineering acumen will be pivotal in developing engineering studies, design plans, construction documents, and comprehensive reports. More seasoned candidates will have the chance to take on responsibilities as task managers or project managers for small to mid-sized projects.
The selected individual will join Michael Baker International's Transportation Department, collaborating with highway, bridge, bicycle/pedestrian designers, community planners, and traffic engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating designs, calculations, technical reports, and drawings for various highway and bridge projects.
- Conduct field visits to project sites to assess, document, and photograph local conditions.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers to finalize designs and analyses of roadways, bridges, trails, sidewalks, and other transportation infrastructures.
- Prepare quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
- Utilize design software to apply engineering principles in the preparation of construction and right-of-way plan sets.
- Research and investigate solutions, documenting findings.
- Gain insights into the processes involved in assembling transportation project contract documents.
- Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits.
- Oversee tasks and guide junior staff members.
- Support proposal development for new projects.
- Engage with clients and participate in project meetings.
- Take pride in contributing to Michael Baker International's mission of delivering innovative solutions to transportation challenges, positively impacting the clients and communities we serve.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant highway engineering experience under a licensed professional.
- Possession of a P.E. license in Pennsylvania.
- Experience with PennDOT, county, municipal, or city projects is advantageous.
- Preferred experience or coursework in transportation engineering, highway/bridge engineering, bicycle/pedestrian design, and water resources/stormwater design.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong attention to detail along with effective decision-making, organizational, and editing skills.
- Capability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with CADD software; experience with Bentley MicroStation and InRoads V8i Select Series 4 / Open Roads is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

The estimated compensation range for this position is $105,000 to $120,000. This range is a good faith estimate for the role at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be influenced by factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and work location.
