Job Overview

The Nursing Staffing Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing and facilitating the daily functions of staffing, scheduling, and payroll processes within the Nursing Department, which includes managing agency and travel nurse schedules and invoices. Position involves rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

This role requires close collaboration with the Nursing Leadership Team and Practice Area leaders to assess coverage requirements and address any staffing-related challenges. The Staffing Specialist effectively allocates clinical resources based on various factors, utilizing an automated scheduling system. Direct interaction with the Staffing Resource Team is essential for daily staffing assignments and scheduling management.

Moreover, this position is actively involved in departmental and hospital initiatives aimed at quality assessment and enhancement, identifying areas for service improvement, making informed recommendations, and executing actions that align with the objectives of Nemours Children's Health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Nursing Supervisors and Leaders to ensure sufficient clinical coverage that meets patient care demands, considering census, acuity, productivity, and other relevant factors, while fostering a safe and positive work culture.
  • Engages directly with the Staffing Resource Team for scheduling and daily staffing distribution, ensuring balance for Patient Safety Companions and Benefitted Resource Pool Team members.
  • Provides constructive feedback to clinical staff to resolve issues promptly and effectively.
  • Fosters a collaborative and supportive environment among Practice Areas within the department to enhance teamwork and professional development.
  • Participates in all bed meetings and safety operational huddles during day shifts.
  • Manages overtime, incentive pay, and staff cancellations in accordance with nursing department and HR policies.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Supervisor to make staffing decisions that respond to patient care needs during shifts.
  • Oversees the assignment of associates in the Kronos system and coordinates staff reassignments as necessary.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make timely decisions and escalates critical staffing situations as needed.
  • Handles all sick calls within the Nursing Department, enters appropriate pay codes in Kronos, and promptly informs the affected unit.
  • Receives requests from associates for additional shifts, processes them in Kronos, and notifies the relevant unit of the associate's role and shift.
  • Works collaboratively with Incident Command and assists the Labor Pool in deploying associates.
  • Supports recruitment efforts, including hiring, training, and onboarding new staff members.
  • Assists with timekeeping to ensure accurate employee compensation.
  • Helps track and report attendance.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in timekeeping and scheduling is required.
  • Familiarity with the KRONOS timekeeping system is preferred.
