Position Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist

Location: Wilmington, NC

Compensation for Local Candidates: Up to $49/hr. (For those residing within a 50-mile radius)

Compensation for Travelers (For those living beyond 50 miles): Up to $2,170 Gross Weekly (Including Stipend: $1,162 weekly + $28/hr.)

Contract Duration: 13-26 week assignments

Work Schedule: Night shifts, 4x12 hours (18:45–07:15)

Patient Ratios: Staffing ratios are 1:3/4 for surgical/medicine stepdown patients. In cases where stepdown beds are not occupied, the nurse may be required to manage medical-surgical floor patients at a 1:6 ratio. Travelers are expected to care for stepdown patients 40% of the time and medical-surgical patients 60% of the time, maintaining a 1:6 ratio.

Floating Requirement: Similar units or Med/Surg floor patients

Weekend Commitment: Every other weekend

Qualifications:

Minimum Experience: A minimum of 2 years in a surgical unit is required.

Traveler Experience: Previous travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Both local and traveling candidates are welcome to apply.

Contract staff may be assigned to work with a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. They may also be required to report to work during emergencies, mass casualty incidents, or disasters. Mid-contract consolidation to a Centralized Office may occur, and staff may be preassigned to various units as necessary.

Essential Skills: Proficient in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, utilization of Rapid Response Teams, blood product administration, central line care, peripheral line management, and administration of cardiac and vasoactive drips (without titration). Competence in non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care is also required.

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH

PREFERRED SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS, OR EXPERIENCE: Experience as a charge nurse and familiarity with Level 1 Trauma, as well as titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.

Patient Conditions: A diverse array of patient diagnoses related to surgical procedures or trauma, including but not limited to cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstructions, peripheral vascular disease, limb ischemia, hernias, and gangrene.

Special Procedures and Unit Information: Involvement in a wide range of inpatient surgical procedures and trauma cases, such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, and amputations.

Specialized Equipment: Familiarity with wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes/Corpak, JP drains, Hemovac drains, and Penrose drains.

Unit Systems (Medication, Documentation, and Communication): Proficient in using Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for effective communication and documentation.
