Job Summary

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a WFD Work Crew Field Technician Dog Control. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for training and supervising inmate workers participating in the Inmate Work Crew program, maintaining records, preparing evaluations and reports, communicating with other agencies requesting services, and preparing schedules to meet the needs of the services to be performed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport inmate work crews to job sites and supervise inmates performing assigned job tasks.
  • Train inmate workers in the proper use of tools and equipment needed to perform assigned tasks.
  • Train and document training of the inmate work crew on safe work habits and procedures.
  • Service and maintain the tools and equipment used by the inmate work crew.
  • Compile and maintain records on inmate workers, jobs performed, hours of work, training provided, and other program information as necessary.
  • Provide reports relating to the inmate work crew program as needed.
  • Complete and submit timely evaluations on all participants in the inmate work crew program while reporting disciplinary issues to jail staff immediately.
  • Control inmate access to contraband by constantly observing inmates and conducting searches of inmates, job sites, and transport vehicles.
  • Plan and coordinate all job projects relating to the inmate work crew program.
  • Respond to all animal control complaints, including animals at large, public nuisance dogs, barking dogs, dog bites, injured animals, animal abandonment, animal neglect, or any other animal-related matter.
  • Perform animal apprehension, transports, rescues, and control work as needed.
  • Collect and preserve evidence relating to ordinance violations while testifying in court.
  • Prepare accurate records and reports to document incidents, including any follow-up with the public, other jurisdictions, and animal shelters as ordered or required.
  • Issue citations as appropriate.
  • Perform civil service of court paperwork as directed.
  • Assist Patrol Deputies with service of FED - Writ of Execution, Restraining Orders, and Stalking Orders.
  • Direct traffic and provide traffic control assistance (emergency scenes, special events, motor vehicle accidents, etc.).
  • Complete vacation checks on residences within the county.
  • Assist other agencies as requested.
Requirements
  • Must have working knowledge of all laws and ordinances in Jefferson County and the State of Oregon relating to criminal acts.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and arithmetic skills.
  • Previous training or prior experience in an animal care shelter or veterinary office with knowledge of animal behavior and handling, including rabies control and prevention, disease recognition, and animal-related laws is preferred.
