Nuvance Health is seeking a skilled Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist to join our team. This per diem position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing clinical leadership and expertise in the area of cardiovascular surgery.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides clinical leadership and expertise in area of specialty, counseling staff in conformance with Hospital policy.
  • Assesses, monitors, and implements supportive nursing care, health counseling, and education to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.
  • Assists surgeon/anesthesia provider with cardiovascular surgical procedures, including Swan Ganz Insertions, Intra-aortic Balloon Insertion, and permanent pacemakers.
  • Creates and maintains a sterile environment while performing all scubbing and circulating duties, obtaining and documenting data collected.
  • Follows ACLS protocol, under the direction of a cardiac surgeon/anesthesia provider, in the event of a complication or code 99.
  • Collects data for research studies, maintains proper levels of medications and supplies in the inventory, assists with the PI Program, and coordinates the safety education program.
  • Reprograms permanent pacemakers per physician order.
  • Completes and maintains all cardiovascular specific competencies related to scrubbing and circulation duties, including all competencies related to cardiac specific equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintains accurate implant records and performs all mandated reporting of implants, assists with ordering of implants, and maintains inventory of implants and specialty supplies.
  • Assists in the education of nursing and medical students.
  • Develops and initiates teaching strategies that reflect educational needs of staff.
  • Evaluates staffing requirements and recommends changes as needed.
  • Oversees program compliance, ensuring delivery of quality and cost-effective care through problem-solving and implementation of quality assurance/improvement measures.
  • Assists in the technical, radiological, and nursing functions for all on-call procedures after hours, assists in the Performance Improvement Program of the department, and assists in the training and development of other staff members.
  • Achieves the organization's established expectations with regard to quality service, teamwork, self-development, and community service.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Associate's Level Degree and a minimum of 3 years job-related experience.
  • State of CT RN License.
  • Minimum of one year of RN OR experience or recent completion of Periop 101.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Registered Nurse certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSN preferred.
  • Certification in area of specialty.
Work Environment:

Work is performed in a hospital setting with frequent exposure to dirt, odor, noise, human waste, etc. The position requires very heavy effort, exerting up to 50 lbs. force.
