Job Summary

Nuvance Health is seeking a skilled RN Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our cardiovascular surgical team, you will provide clinical leadership and expertise in the area of cardiovascular surgery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in cardiovascular surgery, counseling staff in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Assess, monitor, and implement supportive nursing care, health counseling, and education to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers with cardiovascular surgical procedures, including Swan-Ganz insertions, intra-aortic balloon insertions, and permanent pacemaker implantations.
  • Ensure a sterile environment while performing scrubbing and circulating duties, obtaining and documenting data collected.
  • Follow ACLS protocol under the direction of a cardiac surgeon or anesthesia provider in the event of a complication or code 99.
  • Collect data for research studies, maintain proper levels of medications and supplies, and assist with the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Reprogram permanent pacemakers per physician order.
  • Complete and maintain cardiovascular-specific competencies related to scrubbing and circulation duties.
  • Maintain accurate implant records and perform mandated reporting of implants.
  • Assist in the education of nursing and medical students.
  • Develop and initiate teaching strategies to reflect the educational needs of staff.
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and recommend changes as needed.
  • Oversee program compliance and ensure the delivery of quality and cost-effective care through problem-solving and quality assurance/improvement measures.
  • Assist with on-call procedures after hours and participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Achieve the organization's established expectations regarding quality service, teamwork, self-development, and community service.
  • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Requirements
  • Associate's Level Degree and a minimum of 3 years of job-related experience.
  • State of CT RN License.
  • Minimum of one year of RN OR experience or recent completion of Periop 101.
Credentials
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
  • Basic Life Support.
  • Registered Nurse.
