Financial Aid Student Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Aid Student Support Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Community College System. As a key member of our financial aid team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to students and their families, ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial aid applications, and maintaining compliance with federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Process financial aid applications, including state, federal, and local assistance programs
- Provide high-quality customer service to students, parents, and faculty/staff
- Serve as initial contact for students and parents on financial aid matters and enrollment
- Respond to requests submitted through the Financial Aid email account, phone calls, and walk-ins
- Assist students in completing the Financial Aid application
- Process documents within the Student Information System
- Scan and maintain documents within the imaging backup software
- Assist with student communications to maintain compliance with federal regulations
- Responsible for Student Outreach relating to verification requests
- Responsible for processing student SAP appeals
- Assist with Financial Aid Work-Shops and other College events as needed
- Perform supportive level duties to maintain office structure and continual workflow
- Minimum of an associate's degree from an accredited college in Administrative Support Technology or a comparable degree
- Minimum of two years of office experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong sense of customer/client service
- Strong attention to detail with ability to follow and interpret oral and written rules and regulations
- Strong computer capabilities and proficiency using Microsoft Office
- Commitment to the community college mission and knowledge of community college student needs
- Email and internet skills
- Two or more years of work experience in a college or university financial aid office
- Experience with PeopleSoft SIS
The selected candidate's offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation, which may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, verification of education, credit checks (relevant to employment).
