Position Summary:

This role assists Construction Supervisors with daily operations on-site. The Construction Support Specialist (CSS) will receive training in construction techniques, site oversight, task coordination, volunteer engagement, and homeowner relations. Effective collaboration with a diverse group of individuals is essential. You will work alongside AmeriCorps members, volunteers, Habitat homeowners, city inspectors, and subcontractors. This position involves hands-on work with volunteer teams of varying ages and skill levels, while gaining insights into project assessment, scheduling, material logistics, subcontractor coordination, and construction processes. The CSS will also support various Home Preservation initiatives, including home repairs, renovations, and aging-in-place projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Teamwork and Construction:

  • Serve as an on-site representative for Habitat Metro Denver's mission, embodying our values and principles.
  • Collaborate closely with volunteers on-site, ensuring they have a rewarding experience.
  • Engage with homeowners to provide a meaningful job site experience.
  • Assist in the demolition of interiors, including kitchens, bathrooms, walls, flooring, and ceilings.
  • Support exterior demolition tasks, such as siding, doors, windows, and other structures.
  • Participate in carpentry tasks, drywall installation, finish trim work, cabinet assembly, and framing.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate eagerness to learn construction best practices.
  • Operate company vehicles for material transport and assist with loading/unloading as necessary.
  • Willingness to learn safe trailer handling.
  • Exhibit dependability by being punctual and completing assigned tasks.
  • This is a hands-on role, requiring work five days a week.

Safety:

  • Model and communicate the importance of safety to volunteers and contractors.
  • Ensure adherence to established safety protocols on job sites.
  • Conduct daily inspections of tools for safety compliance.
  • Participate in required safety training sessions.
  • Report all incidents or near misses to the Construction Supervisor.
  • Willingness to obtain OSHA 10-hour certification, as well as first aid and CPR training.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of construction is beneficial, but a strong willingness to learn is essential.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in identifying and resolving problems efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for professional interactions with homeowners, volunteers, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Organized training or education in construction is advantageous.
  • Experience with Habitat for Humanity or similar organizations is preferred but not mandatory.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate a residential construction site, including climbing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to safely operate residential construction power tools.
  • Ability to drive a construction vehicle (pickup truck or similar).
  • A valid driver's license and insurability under the company's policy are required.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting Pay Range: $20.05 to $22.20 per hour, based on relevant experience.
