Job DescriptionEmerging Blue Jobs is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join their team in a 4-month capacity maternity cover. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and creating soft goods products, such as baby carriers, accessories, and print direction for two brands under their portfolio. The successful candidate will work closely with the director of design and other cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality fit and construction that can be duplicated in mass production.Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop new soft goods products according to user and market insights.
  • Develop a strong sense of design aesthetic, user empathy, and trends.
  • Collaborate with marketing to ensure new products meet the brief, the needs of consumers, and our brand values.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant market and competitor new developments and products.
  • Participate in and synthesize consumer research (consumer testing and fit sessions) to better inform development work.
  • Utilize full product development processes, including sketches, software, and physical prototypes to communicate new designs to internal teams and factories during development.
  • Have hands-on knowledge of soft goods product construction and ability to use patternmaking and sewing skills to prove functional designs.
  • Partner with Technical Designer & factory to ensure high-quality fit & construction that can be duplicated in mass production.
  • Ability to understand the calendar & partner with various departments to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have Adobe Illustrator experience.
  • Basic patternmaking and sewing knowledge.
  • Willing to learn Optitex (computer patternmaking software).
  • Tech savvy and willing to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Garment or bag construction experience is preferred.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to realize the appropriate fit and functionality of the product.
  • Work with Technical Designers to ensure that all Tech Packs are accurate, completed on time & kept up to date.
  • Own, manage, and take responsibility for all assigned projects and their timelines.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Fashion Design or Industrial Design with experience in both creative and technical aspects of design.
  • 5+ years experience in soft structured goods design, such as handbags, backpacks, carriers, seats, footwear, foundation garments, or orthopedic wear.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Office.
  • Soft goods Product Development experience, including patternmaking & sewing.
  • Optitex and Solidworks proficiency a plus.
