Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Outdoor Education

IMPORTANT: This application is intended for individuals who have prearranged to participate at a designated Northwest Outdoor Science School location or event. This includes guardians of current Outdoor School participants or community members. It is mandatory to contact a Site Coordinator before submitting this application. Applications submitted without prior coordination with a NWRESD Site Coordinator will not be accepted.

Throughout the academic year, individuals may wish to engage in activities at a Northwest Outdoor Science School site or event. To do so, prospective volunteers must complete an application similar to that of a paid position. Volunteer applicants will undergo a background check and Oregon Department of Education fingerprint clearance and must fill out a Volunteer Application prior to participating in any activities at a Northwest Regional ESD facility or Northwest Outdoor Science School site or event. Please note that this process may take up to 14 business days to finalize.

Each adult attending must submit their own application. Applications cannot be submitted on behalf of couples or groups of volunteers.

VOLUNTEER CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS

Volunteer Application/Guidelines Form
A completed Volunteer Application/Guidelines form must be on file before engaging with students.

Identification
Volunteers are required to sign in and out of the facility and wear a badge, tag, or button identifying them as volunteers.

Management/Operations
Volunteers must recognize that the paid staff is, by law, responsible for the overall management and operation of the school and its programs.

Confidentiality
Volunteers must maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff members within the school environment. Such information should only be discussed with the appropriate teacher or staff member.

Discipline
Volunteers are not permitted to discipline students. Such issues should be referred to the appropriate staff member.

Supervision of Students
Students must not be left unsupervised, especially during emergencies. Volunteers should utilize the room communication system to request assistance or send a student to the office if necessary.

Emergency Drills
During emergency drills, volunteers are to exit the building with students as directed by school staff.

Bodily Fluids
Volunteers are generally not trained to handle bodily fluids and should call for staff assistance if a student is bleeding or vomiting.

Reliability
Volunteers must be dependable and will inform the staff as soon as they are aware of any inability to volunteer or if their arrival time will be later than scheduled.

Example for Students
Volunteers serve as role models for students. Dress and behavior should not attract undue attention. Use of profanity, smoking, and promotion of personal religious beliefs is prohibited in any NWRESD facility.

Use of NWRESD Network Services
Volunteers are expected to adhere to NWRESD policy and administrative rule EDE and EDE-AR regarding the "Acceptable Use of Electronic and Network Services".
