Job Title: PRN Licensed Practical Nurse

The PRN LPN plays a vital role in the day-to-day functions of the campus First Aid Center, providing person-centered education to students and promoting individual independence.

The PRN LPN reports to the First Aid Center RN and is responsible for performing nursing tasks such as medication observation, treatments, documentation within the student's health record, and providing care to individuals with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities.

Available Shifts:
  • 2nd shift: Monday through Friday 1pm - 9pm (7.5 hours of work with an unpaid 30-minute lunch break)
  • Weekend shifts: Saturday and Sunday 8am - 9pm (11 hours of work and two unpaid 1 hour lunch breaks)

The PRN LPN reports to the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center on a schedule that includes nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:
  • Assesses students at the First Aid Center with a triage approach
  • Records vital signs
  • Observes students self-administering medications and documents progress
  • Oversees the medication observation process
  • Performs treatments as ordered by providers
  • Responds to medical emergencies on campus
  • Documents essential findings in the student's medical record
  • Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Attends meetings as requested
  • Adheres to established protocols and procedures
  • Works with a variety of students who have physical, mental, and developmental disabilities
  • Administers nursing care in a school-based setting
  • Manages supplies and inventory in a fiscally responsible way
  • Possesses the ability to initiate tasks autonomously when needed
  • Is on time for shifts and reliable
  • Presents to customers in a cheerful, positive manner
  • Assists with ADL's as needed
  • Possesses knowledge of adaptive equipment
Qualifications:
  • Currently licensed as a practical nurse in the state of TN
  • Possesses knowledge of basic laboratory practices
  • Effective communication and listening skills
  • Ability to provide clear, concise information in a classroom setting
  • Basic knowledge of electronic data usage
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills
  • Basic skills using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
