Key Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will engage in complex legal administrative tasks, providing essential support to the professional legal staff within the District Attorney's Office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Transcribing intricate dictation involving legal terminology and preparing briefs for appellate courts and local judges, ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all sensitive information.
- Drafting replies and correspondence in accordance with established protocols.
- Preparing standard documents for criminal court proceedings.
- Managing car forfeiture actions and maintaining records of declined prosecution cases.
- Coordinating the calendar for court hearings related to District Attorney cases.
- Assisting attorneys in meeting statutory and court-imposed deadlines.
- Handling telephone inquiries and providing information to the public and other agencies.
- Organizing files and materials to facilitate legal processes.
- Efficiently managing and cataloging all closed criminal files.
- Communicating information to the public and county agencies regarding legal actions and decisions.
- Sorting, indexing, and filing materials according to predetermined classifications.
- Providing support in Criminal Division legal work as needed, including criminal complaints and search warrants.
- Serving as a direct backup to the Criminal & Traffic Paralegal Aide.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of experience within the District Attorney's Office.
- Typing proficiency of 60 words per minute with accuracy.
- Thorough understanding of office practices, procedures, and business English.
- Advanced skills in computer software, including word processing and specialized applications relevant to office operations.
- Ability to independently draft legal documents and compose detailed, concise reports.
- Capability to transcribe dictation swiftly and accurately.
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated judgment, tact, and courtesy in all interactions.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to office procedures.
