Position Overview
In accordance with Federal regulations, all individuals hired will be required to confirm their identity and eligibility to work in the United States, as well as complete the necessary employment eligibility verification form upon hiring.
The Early Childhood Education Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the classroom environment. This position involves collaborating with the classroom Teacher to design and execute suitable early childhood activities, with the help of parent volunteers, while working under the Teacher's guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist children in engaging with planned activities.
- Actively contribute to classroom operations. Support the Supervising Teacher in creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans that encompass language development, pre-math skills, Individual Education Plans (IEP), Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP), and developmental assessment goals, while demonstrating positive interactions between staff and children. Aid in arranging the classroom environment and setting educational goals, conducting ongoing assessments through observations and work samples. Assist in planning classroom activities and reinforcing behavior management strategies.
- Encourage parental involvement and volunteer participation in classroom and other related activities.
- Maintain daily communication with families.
- Ensure a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Participate in the recruitment of eligible children and families for the program.
- Assist with two home visits per child annually.
- Support the organization of parent meetings and related activities.
- Facilitate parent/teacher conferences to keep parents informed about their child's progress.
- Engage in the Family Style Meal Service program, assisting children in food serving, promoting appropriate table manners, and encouraging good nutritional habits following CACFP guidelines.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding child and family information.
- Assist with children's screenings and follow-up activities, including audio, vision, height/weight assessments, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Complete reports as assigned by the supervisor accurately and punctually.
- Exhibit a high tolerance for paperwork, documentation, and adherence to district and federal deadlines.
- Collaborate with center staff to maintain sanitary conditions and comply with local, state, and national health and safety regulations.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Education and Experience
Experience and training equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED, along with experience working with preschool-aged children. Must comply with all health and licensing regulations as mandated by the relevant health services department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Self-motivated with prior experience in a preschool setting or related field. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are essential. Familiarity with Early Childhood Education principles is required. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Must be bondable. Bilingual proficiency and experience in multicultural settings are preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, demonstrating the capacity to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions. Competence in writing simple correspondence is necessary. Must be effective in presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, customers, and colleagues. Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, is required, along with the ability to apply common sense understanding to problem-solving in standardized situations.
Certificates and Licenses
Must obtain a Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Food Handlers Certification may be required by the County Health Department.
CPR and First Aid Certification must be obtained.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate verbally and audibly. The employee may occasionally be required to sit and climb or balance. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and the noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
