Position Summary: The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the safety protocols and programs within Infra-Rec, ensuring that all operations adhere to industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development and Execution of Safety Programs:
- Design and implement extensive safety initiatives tailored for transmission and distribution (T&D) and substation operations.
- Establish safety policies and procedures that comply with OSHA, NFPA, NESC, and other pertinent regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of job sites, facilities, and equipment to ensure compliance.
- Training and Skill Enhancement:
- Create and deliver safety training sessions for employees at all levels, including field staff, contractors, and management.
- Provide specialized training on critical topics such as electrical safety, fall protection, and confined space entry.
- Keep employees updated on new regulations, equipment, and best practices in safety.
- Risk Management and Hazard Control:
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for all T&D and substation activities.
- Identify potential safety hazards associated with high-voltage equipment and live line work.
- Implement strategies to eliminate or mitigate risks, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Incident Analysis and Reporting:
- Lead investigations into all safety incidents, including near-misses and accidents.
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing root causes and corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Share findings and lessons learned with all relevant stakeholders.
- Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain all necessary safety records and documentation.
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work in partnership with project managers, engineers, and site supervisors to integrate safety into project planning.
- Act as a liaison between Infra-Rec and regulatory agencies, clients, and community stakeholders regarding safety issues.
- Foster a culture of safety through ongoing communication and safety initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in safety management.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to safety programs and processes.
- Lead safety committees and engage in industry safety forums.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline. Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CUSP) are highly desirable.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years in safety management within the power sector, focusing on T&D and substation environments.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of electrical safety, OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, NESC, and other relevant safety codes.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and training abilities. Proficient in assessing risks and implementing effective safety solutions.
- Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or equivalent is preferred.
Work Environment:
- Position may require travel to various job sites.
- Comfortable working outdoors and around high-voltage electrical equipment.
