Position Overview

The Automotive Maintenance Specialist is responsible for executing skilled tasks to carry out all aspects of maintenance and repair for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and associated equipment. The role encompasses everything from routine maintenance and repairs to comprehensive overhauls of engines and transmissions, advanced electrical systems, refrigeration, and fabrication. The Automotive Maintenance Specialist will utilize independent judgment to ascertain the appropriate repair methods after receiving a work order.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine, diagnose, and identify intricate mechanical issues
  • Perform engine tune-ups, replace ignition components, clean parts, and make adjustments as directed by the manufacturer
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related components, including internal and external engine work
  • Conduct required repairs, check fluid levels, and perform oil changes
  • Execute on-site or roadside repairs safely and independently
  • Guide less experienced staff in proper procedures and techniques
  • Maintain records of work, time, and materials used
  • Ensure cleanliness of the workshop, repair service equipment, and change tires
  • Occasionally perform stand-by and call-back duties and be available for call-outs and overtime as necessary
  • Obtain a Motorcycle Endorsement if required
  • Achieve A.S.E. Certifications within one (1) year of employment
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 years of relevant experience and/or training
    • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Class "B" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with necessary endorsements
    • Or if the City is assisting with the process, must obtain CDL within 30 days of completing the program
  • Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance provider
