Position Overview:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care to patients in accordance with physician directives and established hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Administers a variety of respiratory therapy interventions as prescribed, including but not limited to chest physiotherapy.
2. Reviews patient documentation and physician orders to ensure accuracy and compliance.
3. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and hospital operations.
4. Prepares and operates necessary equipment and medications, providing treatments as directed.
5. Educates patients on their care plans and monitors their progress.
6. Oversees environmental control systems and ensures proper functioning of respiratory equipment.
7. Conducts regular patient assessments to maintain high standards of care.
8. Identifies and reports any medical concerns to the physician promptly.
9. Implements emergency protocols as required, participating actively in critical care situations.
10. Performs arterial blood gas sampling following safety guidelines.
11. Upholds departmental policies and safety standards, contributing to quality assurance initiatives.
12. Maintains and manages respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
13. Engages in ongoing education and training to enhance professional skills.

Qualifications:
Registered Respiratory Therapist credential is mandatory.
Certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care is required.
State licensure in Maine is necessary.
BLS and NRP certifications are essential; ACLS certification is preferred.
