About the Role
Harvard University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Librarian of Mathematical and Physical Sciences to join our team. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the academic and research needs of faculty, students, and staff in the sciences.
Job Summary
The Librarian of Mathematical and Physical Sciences will be responsible for developing and managing the collections in the Cabot Science Library, working closely with faculty, students, and staff to support teaching, learning, and research. This includes selecting and acquiring materials, managing serial and database subscriptions, and overseeing the organization of the stacks.
Responsibilities
- Selecting and acquiring materials in all formats, including bibliographic, visual, monographic, and serial materials, to support the research needs of faculty, students, and staff.
- Managing serial and database subscriptions, including choosing vendors and monitoring performance.
- Overseeing the organization of the stacks, including the Birkhoff Mathematical Library and the Physics Department Reading Room.
- Working closely with ITS staff to order, review, and pay for collections.
- Managing funds and tracking order records in Alma.
- Providing research support to patrons, including in-person and virtual reference and research consultation services.
- Serving as a resource regarding copyright, fair use, and related services.
- Representing the Cabot Science Library in internal and external committees and organizations.
- Collecting statistics and reporting on library use.
- Contributing to library strategic planning, policy, and procedure discussions.
- Supporting and enforcing all library security protocols.
- Participating in special projects.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Library Science or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience in a similar role. The salary for this position is estimated to be around $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
