This position falls under the Blue Origin Operations umbrella, which encompasses Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes comprehensive Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin locations.

As a key member of a dedicated team of diverse specialists, machinists, and engineers, you will collaborate closely with engineering design to facilitate all manufacturing initiatives for machined components utilizing mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines for various Blue Origin engine parts. In your role as a Manufacturing Engineer, you will convert engineering intentions, drawings, and configurations into detailed work instructions that yield high-quality hardware. Throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, you will also identify, develop, and implement strategies to enhance quality, minimize costs, and streamline build sequences and schedules. Your contributions will significantly impact the future of space exploration, requiring your unwavering commitment and meticulous attention to safe and repeatable spaceflight.

  • Available shifts include:
    • First Shift - 5:00am - 3:30 pm (Monday-Thursday)
  • Interviews will include a technical evaluation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and refine manufacturing techniques to enhance quality, reduce costs, and optimize production schedules.
  • Translate engineering designs, drawings, and configurations into fully operational, high-quality machined components.
  • Create manufacturing work instructions that clearly outline the production process.
  • Determine setup procedures for machining hardware on mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies to strengthen the design-to-machining feedback loop.
  • Review engineering drawings and provide final approvals for manufacturing.
  • Define and support repair and rework processes for machined components.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the machining process.
  • Work safely within an industrial environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of machining experience in developing manufacturing processes and requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions while providing constructive feedback.
  • Strong experience with DFM and PFMEA methodologies.
  • Proficient in mechanical system design and hands-on machining.
  • Skilled in designing, measuring, modifying, and monitoring manufacturing processes.
  • Experienced in developing tooling and work holding fixtures to support machining operations.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills, including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 / ASME Y standards.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and project management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S and Kaizen.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, capable of prioritizing tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to foster trust, maintain positive relationships, and contribute to an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in specialized fabrication processes (machining, grinding, forging, welding, casting, forming, rolling, etc.).
  • Experience with hard and exotic metals.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards.
  • Experience in CNC programming.
  • Broad experience in hardware manufacturing, including welding, assembly, integration, and testing.
  • Green Belt Certification.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
