Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at the Grand Forks Public School District. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in providing support to students with language, communication, and speech sound disorders.

Responsibilities:

* Provide speech and language interventions and treatments to students identified with or at-risk for speech and language delays.
* Create individualized education plans to treat various speech and language disorders.
* Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings.
* Conduct diagnostic evaluations and determine eligibility for speech and language services.
* Complete Medicaid Billing paperwork.
* Consult with teachers, parents, and outside service providers.
* Maintain detailed progress notes for students receiving services.
* Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
* Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.

Requirements:

* Possess a thorough understanding of causation and evidence-based interventions for a variety of speech and language disorders.
* Possess a thorough understanding of alternative and augmentative communication.
* Demonstrate compassion and patience for individuals with disabilities.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of special education compliance requirements.
* Exhibit good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to work collaboratively with other professionals in the school setting.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand.
* The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
* Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
* Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50); reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.

The employee may encounter situations where students are physically aggressive and/or verbally abusive. This may require physical interaction (using strategies acquired through de-escalation and restraint training) between the employee and student.

Terms of Employment:

* 188 days contract

Evaluation:

* By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
