The Director of Engineering is tasked with overseeing the entire facility and its operational systems to guarantee the safety and comfort of hotel guests, staff, vendors, and patrons. This role serves as the primary support for the hotel’s service and operations teams, enabling them to deliver an outstanding experience for all visitors on a daily basis. Additionally, the Director is responsible for safeguarding and maintaining the hotel’s most significant asset: the building itself.
The Head Engineer will ensure that Wythe Hotel adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations. This includes preparing for and responding to inspections from relevant authorities, as well as ensuring that the hotel remains compliant with all necessary filings, permits, and tests.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who enjoys facilitating the success of colleagues and other departments. This leadership position within the Engineering Department must contribute passionately to the hotel’s daily operations.
The Head Engineer should possess excellent communication skills and maintain a positive, optimistic demeanor. They must effectively manage multiple projects and priorities each day while having a solid foundation of knowledge and experience in general building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the building’s infrastructure and perform hands-on maintenance of all systems.
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs for all hotel equipment and systems.
- Lead the Engineering team, providing training and mentorship to ensure a friendly, efficient, and dedicated workforce.
- Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies and requisition parts as necessary.
- Communicate and prioritize all repairs, maintenance, upgrades, and changes to systems within the hotel to all relevant departments.
- Track project deadlines and report progress to ownership and department heads.
- Ensure all projects, maintenance, and repairs are conducted in a clean and efficient manner for optimal results.
- Build and maintain relationships with maintenance vendors and suppliers, collaborating with the Accounting Department to secure the best pricing for quality service.
- Respond to guest and manager repair requests promptly on a daily basis.
- Ensure compliance with all governing agencies, managing programs to stay current on required testing, reporting, and training.
- Maintain the hotel’s appearance, ensuring all public spaces and guest rooms are clean and well-presented at all times, while keeping back-of-house areas organized.
- Be available for emergency calls and respond swiftly to assist staff in resolving issues at any time.
Required Experience
- Proven experience in managing and leading a team of employees.
- Previous engineering experience in a hotel setting is preferred.
- High level of competence with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler systems, cooling towers, elevator operations, sump pumps, and other building-related systems.
- Willingness to adopt a hands-on approach to all responsibilities.
