Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to join our team at The Jefferson, Washington DC. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about providing seamless guest experiences and ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team by assigning and monitoring daily projects.
- Conduct thorough reviews of proposals to understand project scope, deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
- Perform regular inspections of the hotel's physical structure, mechanical systems, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient maintenance.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations involving mechanical or other building issues.
- Track and manage room maintenance projects, including purchasing parts and equipment as needed.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors for equipment maintenance and installations.
- Maintain effective relationships with multiple service vendors, ensuring their work meets the highest standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment to minimize disruptions.
- Work closely with hotel leadership to present cost-effective proposals for maintaining and repairing all systems throughout the hotel.
- Foster a guest-focused perspective, ensuring positive interactions with guests at all times.
- Create weekly departmental schedules and track vacation/sick requests for team members.
- Process weekly departmental payroll and maintain accurate records.
- Understand and adhere to the collective bargaining agreement, promoting positive employee relations.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant local regulations, including DC Building Regulations, Fire Code, and Health Department requirements.
- Maintain the hotel's exterior appearance and curb appeal, ensuring a welcoming environment for guests.
Salary Range:
$130,000 - $145,000 per year, plus bonus eligibility.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- DC 3rd Class Boiler Operator's License
- CFC Universal Certification
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in Building Management Systems
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of methods and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC units
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, staff, and management
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Able to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, and lift 50lbs
