Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist is a vital member of our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This role is responsible for performing urgent and emergent radiographic examinations, ensuring the highest quality images for accurate diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities- Receives patients, explains the method of procedure, and positions them for radiographic examinations.
- Selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment, and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedures.
- Under the direction of a supervising radiologist, administers barium or iodinated contrast media orally, intravenously, or rectally.
- Monitors vital signs and notifies the radiologist of significant changes.
- Provides clinical instruction for radiology technician students, including positioning patients, measuring patient thickness, and evaluating images for diagnostic quality.
- Independently makes routine radiographic examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for diagnosis of illness or injury.
- Performs operator preventive maintenance on x-ray equipment and reviews new developments in the field to recommend improvements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Must pass a background/security investigation.
- Must be able to serve a probationary period.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
- Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
