We are seeking a skilled Painter to join our team at Chartway Arena, located on the campus of Old Dominion University. As a Painter, you will work closely with the Director of Parking and Venue Maintenance to ensure the arena's interior and exterior surfaces are properly painted and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply paint to various surfaces, including walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, priming, or sealing as needed.
- Clean walls to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Protect surfaces with cloth or plastic to prevent damage.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, or plaster.
- Use ladders, lifts, and scaffolding to access high areas.
- Remove fixtures and coverings before painting.
- Apply multiple coats of paint according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Touch up and apply additional coats as needed.
- Remove paint splatters and clean up equipment and work areas.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain a professional work ethic and provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure a safe working environment and follow all safety procedures.
Requirements
- Work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to use a paintbrush and paint roller.
- Basic knowledge of sheetrock repair is required.
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility maintenance practices and equipment usage.
- Work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Follow instructions and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Model safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Remain flexible and adapt to changing situations.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum six months of related experience is preferred.
- Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 pounds.
