About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Port-of-Entry Inspector Trainee. As a key member of our transportation team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of commercial vehicles across our borders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect commercial vehicles and materials for size and weight, safety, and hazards using electronic devices and visual inspection.
  • Determine if licenses and permits are current and valid, and verify driver qualifications, including licenses, medical cards, and logbooks.
  • Issue and sell temporary and oversize permits and registrations.
  • Use computer terminals to check tax status, registration, and licenses, and collect fees for permits, registrations, and citations.
  • Operate cash registers and account for monies received.
  • Prepare and deliver bank deposits.
  • Issue warnings or citations for violations and receive fines and bonds.
  • Write incident and activity reports.
  • Provide directions and information on road conditions and travel facilities.
  • Work various shifts, including weekends.
Requirements
  • Some knowledge of English, including proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Experience with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers, interpreting and applying rules and regulations, writing reports, and dealing with the public in stressful situations.
  • Valid driver's license.
