This essential position is part of our mission to create and execute focused initiatives that enhance student onboarding, retention, and comprehensive support.


Classification Summary:

Under minimal supervision, this role develops, implements, and supervises a variety of integrated programs and initiatives aimed at assisting in the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students from underrepresented demographics.

Responsibilities include promoting and representing program activities both internally and externally. The specialist coordinates and provides support services to student participants as necessary.
Classification Standard Duties:

Plans, develops, and coordinates student support initiatives, special projects, and other activities focused on the recruitment and retention of students within the targeted demographic.

Manages all aspects of daily operations related to various programs and activities associated with this role.

Acts as the primary liaison with internal and external stakeholders regarding program activities; represents the program on local, regional, and national levels.

Facilitates and/or coordinates financial aid scholarship distribution, academic advising, career counseling, and related support for students involved in the programs; advocates for students and addresses day-to-day challenges as needed.

Oversees and/or coordinates the collection and analysis of program activity data; prepares, writes, edits, and presents statistical and narrative reports and evaluations.

May develop and implement strategies for identifying and securing funding and resource opportunities for program activities, including the preparation of grant proposals.

Participates in setting goals and objectives; recommends, implements, and manages methods and procedures to improve operations as appropriate.

Supervises staff, which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluations, training, work allocation, and conflict resolution. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:
Understanding of student recruitment and retention challenges. Familiarity with various recruitment strategies and techniques. Knowledge of targeted recruitment principles, procedures, and resources. Awareness of student outreach services and activities.

SKILLS:
Data management and record-keeping skills

Performance management skills; ABILITIES:
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to develop and execute recruitment strategies. Proficient in problem analysis and resolution. Capable of planning community outreach initiatives. Competent in analyzing course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements. Skilled in organizing meetings and special events. Proficient in designing and developing recruitment strategies. Knowledgeable in community outreach practices.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure that admissions and registration processes are streamlined for students to facilitate enrollment.

Collaborate with local high schools and TRIO programs to engage with students and host multiple registration events.

Develop a sustainability plan for these events.
Ensure that all first-year students from underrepresented backgrounds have completed all necessary applications for scholarships and financial aid prior to finalizing enrollment/registration.
Work with the scholarship coordinator to recruit applicants for additional scholarship opportunities.
Identify further financial aid resources for students (e.g., corporate grants, scholarships, etc.)

In partnership with Student Services and advisors, review the current Placement Assessment and evaluate its effectiveness based on successful completion rates in developmental programs.

Collaborate with Student Services representatives and faculty to implement the Placement Assessment in the onboarding and recruitment process for first-year students.

Create a sustainability plan for the Placement Assessment.
Identify and connect with first-year students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Monitor designated students, based on risk factors, at four checkpoints throughout the semester, providing proactive support to help students remain on track toward completion.

Identify any existing barriers caused by campus policies or regulations for underrepresented and low-income students and address those barriers with the project director and designated committee to suggest simplifications.

In collaboration with the team, create and continuously update a resource toolbox to provide local resources to students.

Develop a sustainability plan for the resource toolbox.
Ensure that no barriers exist that could hinder completion, utilizing community resources and services (toolbox).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in organizing registration events and financial aid resources.
Familiarity with placement assessment processes and tutoring services.
