Job Summary

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee and ensure the effective operation of patient care. Support Physicians in evaluating and managing patient care. Act as the Triage Nurse for The Heart Center.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Registered Nurse with a valid State License. Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
  • Educational Requirements: Associate's Degree.
  • Minimum Experience: Candidates must possess at least three years of recent experience in the cardiology specialty.

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exhibits knowledge suitable for caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations relevant to the unit of practice.
  • Meets all certification prerequisites defined by the unit (i.e., BLS, ACLS, PALS).
  • Demonstrates critical thinking capabilities.
  • Exhibits sound clinical skills and judgment.
  • Basic computer proficiency required to operate systems utilized in the unit.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with office visits (initial and follow-up), document weight, vital signs, bilateral BP measurements, and medications. Monitor symptoms and conditions for acutely ill patients that may require emergency or immediate care and notify the Physician or PA. Aid in the collection of medical records while ensuring confidentiality. Evaluate the need for and assist with medication refills. Prepare for office visits (gown, etc.). Conduct electrocardiograms.
  • Evaluate patients contacting the Heart Center or arriving as "walk-ins" and triage appropriately. Based on symptoms, guide them to schedule follow-up appointments or problem visits, proceed to the emergency department, or activate EMS as needed.
  • Accurately gather and document data into the EPIC system. Input medications, problem lists, and medical histories in the designated areas of the chart. Abstract medical information into the EMR. Create clinical resumes when necessary. Update and verify information in the electronic medical record. Execute, verify, and complete orders. Monitor in-basket and follow up on test results.
  • Follow Physician orders. Educate patients and complete consent forms for procedures as required. Provide education and application of event monitors and Holter monitors. Conduct and document ABI tests. Perform venipuncture and order necessary lab work. Assist with scheduling tests/procedures. Obtain consents for tests/procedures. Ensure timely communication of test results to patients. Prepare patients' EMR prior to Physician encounters. Review previous office notes to confirm all prior Physician orders have been fulfilled.
  • Support Lab Clinic operations. Perform venipuncture. Order necessary lab work. Prepare blood samples. Retrieve lab results. Complete appropriate lab flow sheets for Physician review. Follow through with Physician orders based on results.
  • Serve as a resource for MAs, CMAs, and LPNs. All RNs are utilized as resources for clinical information based on their educational knowledge base.
  • Assist with the stocking and maintenance of drug samples.
  • Assist with the ordering and stocking of supplies.
  • Perform other related job duties or functions as requested or assigned according to the organization's needs.
