Job Title: Police Officer

As a Police Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment, upholding the university's mission and values, and providing exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrol assigned areas, buildings, streets, and grounds to protect life and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and accidents, and conduct investigations as needed.
  • Exercise judgment and resourcefulness in investigating and arresting criminals, maintaining law and order during emergencies, and providing special security services.
  • Interact with the public in a responsive and non-escalatory manner, warning, citing, or arresting individuals for violations of the law or safe driving practices.
  • Perform patrol duties, which may require continuous standing, walking, and occasional strenuous positions, under varying climatic conditions, with exposure to occupational hazards.
Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be 21 years or older at time of employment.
  • Possession of an Oregon Driver's License by start date.
  • Three years of experience as an Oregon certified police officer or eligible for lateral certification by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Possess DPSST Telecommunications certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 60+ credit hours from an accredited university, school, or college.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED specialization.
  • Experience as a police officer in higher education.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule:

This position is deemed essential and supports essential functions on campus operations and may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency, and other University work curtailments of closure.

The employee may occasionally be required to engage in physically combative confrontations with resistant and possible violent individuals in order to subdue them.

This position will require presence during evenings and weekend on campus and at other locations for emergencies, events, and meetings.

This position may involve shift work that can include day shift, swing shift, or night shift duties that administration assigns.

Hourly pay method, with pay period from the 16th to the 15th of the following month, and pay date on the last working day of the month.
