The Parts Counter position includes a compensation structure that features a monthly draw and may also include commission based on sales performance, with no upper limit on earnings. Additionally, a production bonus may be awarded based on individual or team performance.

Position Responsibilities

The Automotive Parts Specialist is responsible for retail sales of automotive parts to customers, whether in person, via phone, or through the service department.

*** Candidates with prior experience in parts sales (dealership or retail) are preferred; familiarity with CDK software is a plus.

Key Duties Include:

  • Assist customers in selecting necessary parts, suggest related items, and promote special offers to ensure they are aware of the full range of products available.
  • Retrieve items from inventory. If a part is unavailable, check for availability and place emergency orders as needed.
  • Handle phone inquiries, providing pricing and product information, and assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
  • Prepare orders for daily shipment, delivery, or customer pickup.
  • Review 'will call' and 'back order' files weekly, returning unnecessary items to vendors or restocking them.
  • Support service technicians in identifying parts required for ongoing repairs.
  • Open repair order envelopes for new service requests.
  • Order parts not in stock after consultation with the Shop Foreman to ensure timely repairs.
  • Notify the Shop Foreman and customers when ordered parts arrive.
  • Assist with phone inquiries during peak times at the front counter.
  • Ensure parts are charged out only with the proper documentation from technicians.
  • Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor with all customers, both in person and over the phone.
  • Provide high-quality service to all dealership departments.
  • Process returns for parts, ensuring original invoices are available for verification.
  • Ensure all chargeback sales are signed by customers.
  • Collect necessary information for tax-exempt sales.
  • Present customers with invoices after completing transactions.
  • Notify the credit department of any declined credit card transactions.
  • Keep the front and rear counter areas organized and clean.
  • Restock inventory daily and inform the Parts Manager of any issues.
  • Stay updated on new products and changes in the inventory.
  • Participate in available training programs.
  • Collaborate with the Parts Manager to track lost sales.
  • Maintain cleanliness of computer terminals and printers.
  • Must be legally able to operate company and customer vehicles.
  • Must be insurable by the company’s insurance provider.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting any incidents immediately.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and information.
  • Minimum one year of experience in an automotive parts department.
  • Minimum one year of sales experience.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to effectively interact with multiple customers simultaneously.
  • Must wear a dealership uniform at all times.
