Position Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Unit provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a specialized catheterization environment.

This role encompasses responsibilities before, during, and after procedures, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients, their families, and significant others, providing essential education throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)
Conducts thorough assessments and documents the physical and emotional needs of patients.
Exhibits the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver age-appropriate care.
Employs the nursing process to provide direct patient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Demonstrates clinical and technical proficiency in executing Cardiac Catheterization and Radiology-related treatments and procedures, including but not limited to neuro-radiology, left and right heart catheterization, coronary interventions, valve studies, diagnostic oximetry, peripheral angiography, peripheral interventions, pacemaker/AICD implants, electrophysiology studies, and ablations.

Prepares and calibrates necessary equipment such as transducers and oximeters.

Exhibits expertise in utilizing various cath lab specialty devices; maintains hemodynamic nursing documentation and physiological monitoring systems, including pacemakers, defibrillators, IVUS, pressure wires, contrast injectors, and any new technologies that enhance patient care in the Cardiac Catheterization Unit and Recovery area.

Ensures all emergency and monitoring equipment is ready and compliant with policy.
Implements medical management of patient care based on physician directives.
Demonstrates clinical and technical competence in medication administration following established protocols.
Exhibits proficiency in emergency resuscitation techniques.
Initiates appropriate emergency protocols and administers life-saving medications as directed by a Physician/Radiologist.
Maintains skills in administering adult IV sedation and may provide sedation for young adults if appropriately trained.
Injects contrast media, radiopharmaceuticals, and other medications under the guidance of a Radiologist or other physician as necessary.
Compiles a comprehensive nursing history of the patient, including a systems review.
Documents all relevant information in accordance with current policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Possesses a solid understanding of hemodynamic pressure recording and interpretation, sterile techniques, cardiac catheterization, and special procedures equipment and supplies, along with sufficient computer skills for electronic documentation.

Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates adaptability in addressing unexpected demands and priorities.
Displays strong interpersonal skills, utilizing tact and diplomacy in interactions with colleagues, patients, and the public.
Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
Capable of functioning independently in patient care and equipment operations.
Ability to collaborate in planning and organizing work as a team member. PAL's certification is preferred.

EDUCATION
Associate's Degree in Nursing Required
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse in a cardiac-related setting, such as a telemetry nursing unit, or two (2) years of experience in a Critical Care or Emergency Department, or a closely related field.

2 years in Healthcare/Medical - Critical Care Medicine Required
2 years in Healthcare/Medical - Emergency Services/Trauma Required
5 years in Healthcare/Medical - Telemetry Required
Licensed Registered Nurse
Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Certified in Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
