Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a tailored and innovative adapted physical education program aimed at meeting the unique needs of students with moderate to severe trauma and behavioral challenges, as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). This includes promoting physical fitness, safety habits, health, and various motor skills.
- Employ instructional strategies that engage, motivate, and challenge all trauma-informed students, ensuring equitable participation.
- Create a positive learning environment where all students feel respected and valued.
- Utilize diverse assessment methods during instruction to monitor and inform student progress.
- Encourage students to appreciate the significance of Physical Education and Health.
- Support students in developing healthy lifestyle habits and essential social skills.
- Apply knowledge of exercise physiology to safely adapt physical education expectations to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Incorporate various questioning and discussion techniques to enhance instruction.
- Commit to ongoing professional development by actively participating in department and faculty meetings, as well as professional growth initiatives.
- Engage in extracurricular activities at Tides' School, collaborate with team members, and fulfill all professional responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues, fostering strong relationships and maintaining regular communication with families regarding their children's education.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-6 years of experience in physical education within K-12, charter, or alternative educational settings.
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality adaptive physical education that ensures excellence in physical education, health, and therapeutic lessons.
- Ability to support the intellectual, physical, and social development of at-risk youth through a comprehensive program that promotes academic success.
- Proficiency in instructional methods and materials suitable for achieving defined goals and objectives.
- RIDE Certification as an elementary or secondary Physical Education - Health teacher.
- RIDE Certification in Adaptive Physical Education at the elementary or secondary level.
- Physical Education Certification completed or in progress.
- A valid driver's license and a registered/inspected vehicle are required.
