About the Role

Amergis is seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our team. As a Surgical First Assistant, you will play a vital role in patient care and assisting surgeons preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients with the surgeon's instruction to ensure optimal exposure for the surgical procedure.
  • Use standard and specialized equipment to aid in patient positioning.
  • Provide the surgeon with appropriate visualization of the operative site using retractors, sponges, dial manipulation, and other techniques.
  • Utilize techniques to assist the surgeon with temporary or permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with closure of body planes.
  • Select appropriate actions or instrumentation in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Select and apply appropriate wound dressings.
  • Assist with patient transport to and from the OR.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical assistant program with subsequent current certification/credential.
  • Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
