Job Summary

The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluates patient's physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family.
  • Responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team, functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures.
  • Maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff.
  • Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current Licensure to practice in New York State
  • Recent experience in Mother/Baby or Labor & Delivery
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (required for Labor & Delivery)
  • NRP certification within 3 months of hire

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.

This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

This function/position may be designated as 'essential.' This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities.
