Job Summary

The Department of the Interior is committed to protecting and preserving the nation's natural resources, including National Parks, Landmarks, and community well-being. As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of DOI facilities and personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze critical information regarding emergency management incidents to ensure timely notifications and alerts to key personnel.
  • Maintain situational awareness of evolving incidents and events to develop and maintain a Department-level common operating picture.
  • Track and report critical incidents, monitor ongoing events, and execute standard operating procedures to maintain comprehensive watch office logs and vital records.
  • Prepare and disseminate alerts and notifications to relay updated information regarding emergency management activities and events to a large interagency audience.
  • Maintain proficiency in the operation of IOC communication and IT systems to facilitate information sharing, disseminate alerts, and operate classified and unclassified IOC communication systems.
  • Perform activities in support of the Interior Operations Center, Emergency Operations Division, Office of Emergency Management, the Department's emergency management program, and the Secretary of the Interior in operational areas such as analysis and production, modeling, innovation, and tools development.
  • Lead workgroups and facilitate emergency management projects in support of the office's strategic goals and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret SCI background investigation.
  • Must be able to work extended hours during emergency operations with little or no notice.
  • Must be able to operate in austere and operationally challenging environments during activations or deployments.
Education and Experience

To qualify for this position, you must meet the minimum qualification requirements, which include one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience includes analyzing and evaluating critical, time-sensitive information regarding emergency management incidents, applying emergency management procedures while working in an organization, and utilizing accepted emergency management systems such as NIMS, ICS, and NRF.

GS-12 candidates must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience includes analyzing and evaluating critical, time-sensitive information regarding emergency management incidents, applying emergency management procedures while working in an organization, utilizing accepted emergency management systems such as NIMS, ICS, and NRF, and developing situational awareness products and disseminating that information to emergency management customers or stakeholders.
