Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician plays a vital role in our healthcare team, focusing on delivering urgent medical assistance to individuals in need. This professional will engage in a cooperative care model alongside registered nurses, physicians, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Operate under the guidance of a physician to maintain high standards of care, adhering to established protocols and regulations.
  2. Administer Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) as directed by the supervising physician.
  3. Conduct triage, perform assessments, and provide patient education as necessary.
  4. Document all patient interactions and care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  5. Encourage patient autonomy by building rapport and setting care objectives; educate patients and their families on conditions, medications, and self-care techniques.
  6. Create a supportive environment by offering emotional, psychological, and spiritual assistance.
  7. Clearly identify oneself as a licensed emergency medical technician while performing duties.
  8. Ensure the safety of patients and staff by following all organizational policies and procedures.
  9. Commit to ongoing professional development and growth.
  10. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a nationally or state-approved paramedic training program.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Valid Kentucky Paramedic License.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an approved Critical Care endorsement course during the orientation period is required for continued employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in computer management and applications.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to analyze problems and identify solutions based on experience.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information at all times.
  • Adhere to safety standards and guidelines specific to the organization.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a high-volume patient care environment, with critical care endorsement or prior aeromedical or emergency room experience preferred.
