Ophthalmic Technician Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care and ophthalmic testing procedures as directed by an Ophthalmologist.

• Prepare examination and treatment rooms, ensuring a clean and organized environment for patients.

• Obtain patient history, perform basic and routine vision screening examinations, administer eye medications, and assist with minor office procedures.

• Review the appointment schedule, complete forms, and process records accurately and efficiently.

• Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments, ensuring they are in good working condition.

• Teach proper contact lens care to patients, ensuring they understand how to insert and remove contact lenses correctly and maintain proper sanitary conditions.

• Confirm accuracy of contact lens and glasses deliveries and dispense according to physician direction and patient preference.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification is preferred, and American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, or an Associate's degree/Technical degree, or 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience is required.
