The incumbent will engage in responsible, infrequent skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled manual labor tasks that require minimal training and experience. The position entails performing physically demanding work that may not necessitate advanced skills or prior experience.
Responsibilities include heavy manual labor, which is typically performed under close supervision. However, routine tasks may be carried out independently once learned.
This role is essential for maintaining both indoor and outdoor facilities, including open green spaces, landscaping, and general upkeep.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility and Park Maintenance:
- Maintain buildings, pavilions, and other structures.
- Assist with setup and cleanup for various programs and events.
- Perform general horticultural tasks such as mowing, weeding, and pruning.
- Clean streets, sidewalks, and public areas, and manage refuse collection.
- Load and unload construction materials and assist in street maintenance activities.
- Support the installation and repair of water services and mains.
- Operate light automotive and mechanical equipment under supervision.
- Conduct simple repairs on facilities and grounds.
- Maintain play fields and ensure proper care of lawns and gardens.
- Assist skilled staff in various maintenance and repair tasks.
- Manage garbage collection and recycling efforts.
- Participate in emergency response activities, including snow removal and water main repairs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction.
- General mechanical aptitude and ability to perform manual tasks.
- Capacity to follow oral and written instructions effectively.
- Physical strength and endurance to perform strenuous labor in varying weather conditions.
Experience and Training:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with some experience in general manual labor. Equivalent combinations of experience and training that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will also be considered. A valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Tennessee is mandatory. A pre-employment physical and background check will be conducted.
