Financial Aid Counselor Role at Concordia University

POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for engaging with students to collect necessary information for determining financial aid eligibility and executing related responsibilities that align with the university's objectives.

COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Director of Financial Aid
  • Works in partnership with members of the Athletics department, co-curricular programs, and other colleagues within the Financial Aid office

KEY DUTIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial aid packages for incoming undergraduate and student-athlete populations in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Utilize financial aid management software such as Banner and ARMS to ensure compliance with NCAA standards
  • Oversee all financial aid operations pertaining to NCAA compliance
  • Analyze student data from government platforms including Web Grants, COD, FSA, and NSLDS
  • Provide guidance and support to students and their families regarding financial aid options
  • Efficiently manage the processing of incoming financial aid documentation to guarantee timely completion
  • Administer the verification process for undergraduate students, including athletes
  • Address Professional Judgment appeals related to unique family situations
  • Assist with initiatives for new students and other financial aid responsibilities as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Two to three years of relevant experience or training, or a suitable combination of education and experience

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of CUI, conference, and NCAA compliance regulations
  • Ability to think creatively and adapt to evolving circumstances
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Proficiency in English and computer applications
  • Willingness to embrace new responsibilities as they arise
  • Commitment to confidentiality in financial aid matters
