The Comptroller's Office is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional to join our Unclaimed Property Division as a Comptroller - Safe Deposit Box Analyst (Program Specialist III - IV). This role will involve working with abandoned safe deposit box contents, including inventorying, assessing, and appraising values for tangible items, as well as depositing and withdrawing safe deposit box contents and preparing items for auction.
Key Responsibilities- Inventory and assess the values of items received from safe deposit boxes
- Lot and post items for sale at auctions
- Assist in performing oversight and final approval for tangible valuations for items such as diamonds, semi-precious stones, gems, precious metals, and collectibles for appraiser review
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
- Three to four years of experience performing job duties and responsibilities such as inventory/asset management, cataloging contents, identifying and evaluating valuables, and preparing for appraisal
- One to two years of experience responding to phone and email inquiries from customers
Preferred qualifications for this role include:
- Unclaimed property experience in the public sector or at a banking institution or brokerage firm
- Coordinating periodic auctions of a variety of items
- Experience performing oversight and final approval for tangible valuations for items such as diamonds, semi-precious stones, gems, precious metals, and collectibles for appraiser review
- Experience using a gem loupe, diamond tester, refractometer, or metals acid testing
- Experience using a digital camera or flatbed scanner
- Experience in numismatics
- Experience in analyzing collectibles
- Experience with Photoshop
- Communicating effectively in writing and verbally in both English and Spanish
