Job Summary

The County of Oconee is seeking a skilled Mechanic I to join our team. As a Mechanic I, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of County-owned vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance duties, including oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
  • Repair and replace parts as needed.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized workshop.
  • Perform electrical system repairs as needed.
  • Clean and prepare vehicles and equipment for maintenance.
  • Provide emergency field assistance as needed.
  • Operate heavy equipment as necessary.
  • Conduct road tests to ensure vehicles are mechanically safe and function properly.
  • Review work orders to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain records of work completed and parts used.
  • Attend training classes and workshops to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with ordering parts and supplies.
  • Repair, rotate, or replace tires.
  • Perform body or painting work as necessary.
  • Install special equipment on equipment.
  • Serve on-call 24 hours per day for emergency repair service.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of related experience required.
  • CDL Driver's license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Annual blood borne pathogen classes.
  • ASE certification or stay current with industry certifications.
Physical Requirements

This position requires standing, walking, and using hands for over 2/3 of the time. Lifting up to 10 pounds is required over 2/3 of the time, and up to 100 pounds is required under 1/3 of the time. The position also requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

The position involves working in an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to noise, odors, extreme temperatures, vibration, moisture, dust, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, biohazardous waste, and moving mechanical parts.
