Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant at King's Daughters, you will play a vital role in supporting our medical providers in both clinical and administrative areas. Your responsibilities will include assisting physicians with patient care, handling clerical and environmental tasks, and providing information to patients to help them fully utilize and benefit from our clinical services.
Duties and Essential Functions- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients
- Gathers pertinent health data through screenings and collects specimens for laboratory analysis
- Provides basic patient care as ordered, administers medications and treatments as directed, and assists other healthcare professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, and treatments
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies, documents screenings, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records
- Checks schedules, organizes patient flow, and fulfills clerical responsibilities, including patient registrations, check-in/check-out, scheduling, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information
- Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics, stocks exam rooms, and sorts supplies
- Fulfills facilitator responsibilities, which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, and autoclaving, checking vital signs, physical exam preparations, prescription verifications with physician's orders, minor surgery assists, applying dressings, and suture removal, biohazard waste disposal and monitoring, therapeutic modalities, instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care
- Minimum requirement: High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
- Medical Assistant Certification
- Must maintain AHA BLS Certification
- Preferred qualifications: Three to Five years documented experience within a healthcare organization or medical office
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting), frequently required to walk and move about, frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment, frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices, constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
