POSITION SUMMARY: The Produce Operations Team Leader is accountable for supervising and assessing employee contributions, performance, and growth within specific operational functions. This role involves managing the daily activities of a designated team or department while promoting a collaborative and respectful environment among team members.
POSITION SPECIFICS
- Compensation: Base salary ranges from $60,000 to $65,000, with potential bonuses.
- Schedule: Week one: Monday to Friday; Week two: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Shifts commence at 6:00 AM on weekdays and 7:00 AM on Saturdays.
- Benefits: Includes Paid Time Off (PTO), Medical, Dental, Short-Term Disability (STD), Life Insurance, and 401k plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership and Team Management
- Oversee time and attendance for team members, reviewing daily punches and weekly timesheets, and approving time-off requests.
- Conduct interviews and assist in candidate selection in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Facilitate effective onboarding and training for new hires, ensuring comprehensive orientation and training on quality, safety, and operational processes.
- Manage existing team members, including handling disciplinary actions and grievance procedures.
- Provide continuous training and coaching to enhance team performance.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to all team members.
- Monitor individual and team performance metrics against established targets.
- Lead departmental meetings to discuss progress and address concerns.
- Coordinate daily reports with Warehouse/Forklift teams to ensure efficient product flow.
- Navigate challenging conversations and conflicts with the support of HR and management, maintaining professionalism.
- Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee yield management and shrinkage, reporting any discrepancies.
- Accountable for labor forecasting and scheduling.
- Generate, review, and summarize daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Operational Excellence
- Understand customer requirements to determine product consumption.
- Utilize customer insights to inform decision-making and problem-solving.
- Strive to enhance the customer experience by providing additional value.
- Actively seek internal customer feedback to strengthen business relationships.
- Propose improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality service.
- Food Safety and Quality Assurance
- Communicate quality specifications to all team members for each product.
- Address quality concerns with the inventory team and Operations Manager.
- Collaborate with Food Safety Quality departments to ensure compliance with all quality standards and maintain audit readiness.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives
- Engage in discussions to enhance departmental processes and outputs.
- Advocate for changes that improve current operations and address feedback regarding change.
- Recognize the inevitability of change and explore alternatives for process simplification.
- Learn from both successes and setbacks, sharing strategies with team members.
- Recommend improvements to work procedures and employee performance to elevate service quality and job safety.
- Analyze operational challenges, such as theft and waste, and implement procedures to mitigate these issues.
- Collaborate on new item development to ensure alignment with operational capabilities.
- Safety Compliance
- Ensure that manufacturing operations adhere to safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Report incidents promptly and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Halt production if hazards or quality issues arise until they are resolved.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Comfortable training team members in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to create simple Excel formulas.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work alongside team members with varying levels of language proficiency.
- Capability to operate machinery on the production line.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with MRP, ERP, or WMS technology is advantageous.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
- Experience with Produce Pro is beneficial but not mandatory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to distinguish colors for produce grading.
- Willingness to work in cool to cold environments as required for food safety.
- Ability to stand for extended periods in a warehouse setting.
- Ability to work in a medium to high noise environment.
- Regularly lift up to 30 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Our operations involve handling produce to nourish our communities. To ensure food safety, employees must be prepared to work in cool to cold conditions.
